Makarska riviera is part of the coastline of the central Dalmatia, about 60 km long and 3 km wide. Embraced by the majestic mountain of Biokovo (1762 m) and sunbathed for more than 2700 hours per year, with average temperature higher than 20 C°, Makarska riviera is a true Grad Makarska - središte rivijereMedditerrenian paradise on small scale. Beautiful clear sea endows with the average temperature of 20 C°. Temperature of the sea in summer period varies from 25 C° and 27 C°. Winters are commonly mild and sunny, and summers long and warm with refreshing breeze from the open sea, called “maestral“. Among other winds there is a northern wind bringing coldness, so called “bura“, and southern warm wind, “jugo“, bringing humidity from the sea, favourable for water sports such as sailing and surfing.

 

The town of Makarska is a center of the riviera, to which many of the lively neighbouring smaller towns gravitate. Northwest from Makarska there are Brela, Baška Voda, Promajna, Bratuš and Krvavica. Southeast from Makarska are situated Tučepi, Podgora, Drašnice, Igrane, Živogošće, Blato, Drvenik, Zaostrog and Gradac.

During the tourist season, all towns of Makarska riviera host various events – cultural, entertainment, sport, leisure... These are the days of local festivals when local patrons and days of ancient history are celebrated. In addition to festivals, usually so called “Fishermen's Night“ and other amusing and sport events that take place in ports, on the beaches or hotel terraces. In Makarska all events are organized by the program “Makarska summer“ with highest attendance at “Fishermen's nights“, “Summer carnival“ and “Kalelarga Night“. There are numerous other events of popular or classic music with performances of prominent harmony singing groups, singers and domestic and international folklore assambles, that usually take place st Kačič's square, on the waterfront, as well as on other appropriate stages, such as for example in front of St. Peter's church on St. Peter's semi-island.
